The Dems blew a golden opportunity to live up to at least one of their campaign promises: transparency. Senator Jim Bunning (R., KY.) offered up an amendment that would make any health care amendment public for 72 hours before voting. This way, the public and the legislature could have time to, you know, read it and, uh, actually know what's being voted on. Sounds ludicrous, I know. Anywho, in a shocking turn of events, the dems appear to have been disingenuous in regards to their promise of transparency as they voted down the measure in committee, 12-11, with only one dem defecting. To add insult to injury, the "honorable" Senator Kent Conrad (D., N.D.) said that Senator Bunning's proposed bill was nothing more than a stalling tactic used by government run health care opponents. He claims making the bill public would do no good as only 5% of the public would actually be able to understand its legalese.
Hey Mr. Conrad, EXACTLY THE PROBLEM. What makes you think something this complicated will work?
Shameless
